Receiving this award came as such a shock. It feels wonderful to know that a decade of volunteering and community service work has been acknowledged by such wonderful people who work even harder than I do. This community has so many opportunities to become involved and create the community we desire. I hope that we have many more award winners in the coming years!

Locals To Receive Accolades at Southern Colorado Sustainability Conference
Colorado Springs, CO
Catamount Institute, Colorado Springs Utilities, and City of Colorado Springs will honor local community leaders and businesses at the 2009 Southern Colorado Sustainability Conference on November 3, 7pm at the DoubleTree Hotel. Alicia Archibald, Jane Ard-Smith and Cheyenne Mountain Resort will be recognized for their contributions to implementing innovative strategies of sustainability throughout our region.
The top sustainability awards in the individual category go to Alicia Archibald, President of BETTR Recycling and Director of the Southern Colorado Clean Cities Coalition and Jane Ard-Smith, member of the Pikes Peak Chapter of the Sierra Club, the Green Cities Coalition and SNAPP.
Known as a "clean air and recycling czar," Archibald has also assisted the recycling efforts of Keep Colorado Springs Beautiful, partnered to help the City launch its "Art of Recycling" adopt-a-bin program and led the Southern Colorado Sustainable Communities Technology Expo and Conference in Pueblo, Colorado. She serves on the Citizen's Transportation Advisory Board, Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority Citizen's Advisory Council and the Colorado Association for Recycling Board of Directors.
